Citrus Park sits on the west side of the Valley, with Goodyear along its south edge. Most of the houses we go into here are newer stucco homes in subdivisions, one and two stories, with tile roofs and the ducts and air handler up in the attic. We come over from Buckeye and do the same work in the cities around it, as far north as Surprise.
For most of the year the attic is the hottest spot on the property, so the calls we get are about a hot upstairs, the room over the garage and the power bill. When ducts run through that heat, gaps in the ceiling and thin spots at the edges show up fast, which is why every job starts with a look at what's already up there.
Why the order of work matters here
In most attics here the ducts run right through the heat, so any leak in the ceiling below pulls hot air into your rooms. That's why we start with air sealing, closing the gaps around can lights, pipes and the attic hatch. Next we make sure the eave vents stay clear, because a buried vent traps moisture in the framing. Then the blown-in, loose fill sent through a hose, goes down even, as deep at the edges as in the middle. It's like patching a barn. You plug the holes before you pile hay against the wall.
Getting your attic ready for us
Most hatches out here are in the garage or a hallway closet, so it helps to clear a path and pull a car out of the garage the day we come. In summer an attic gets hot enough to wear a crew down by afternoon, so we like to start early in the morning. I'm on site with our installers, and before anything new goes in, I check what's already there. If the old insulation got soaked from a roof leak or is full of droppings, it comes out first, because new material laid over it just buries the problem. Keep pets in another room while we're going in and out.
What moves the price and the timing
The price mostly turns on how big the attic is, how many inches are already up there, whether old material has to come out first and how many gaps need sealing. Choosing foam over loose fill raises it. The schedule turns on those same things, plus whether the job needs a permit. I come out myself, show you what I found and go over the written estimate with you line by line, so you know what each item does before you sign anything. If walls or the room over the garage need attention too, our home insulation work starts the same way.
